Age 69 years

Passed away suddenly on Thursday April 30th, 2015

Loving father of Kim (Shane) Jones and Dane (Ashley Damstra). Adored Grandpa of Jake and Emily. Dear son of Phyllis Lowery and predeceased by his father Harvey Griffith, step-father John Lowery and step-brother Wayne Lowery. Survived by his brother Bob (Pat) Griffith and step-sisters Catherine Switzer (the late Mel) and Brenda. He will be lovingly missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Peacefully passed away after a brief illness at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Thursday April 30th, 2015

Beloved husband of the late Peggy Prince. Dear father of Daniel Prince (Christina), Colleen Buker (Keith) and Amy Saksons (Chris). Loving grandpa of Tiana, Melissa, Michelle and Ethan. Dear brother of Jim (Phyllis) McPhee. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces; Debra & Tracy, great- nephews and many friends.

Proud Pake of Jeanette (Rob), Christine (Rob), Jeff (Crystal), Greg (Michelle), Elizabeth, Sarah (Jordan), Kimberly (Steve), Lee (Nikki), Dave (Julie), Graeme (Amber), Annalise, Mara and Cameron. Dear Great-Pake of Andrea, Ethan, Payton, Nigel, Evan, Sydnee, Lucas, Cohen, Logan, Olivia, Gavin, Kaiden and Claire. Survived by his brother Tjipke in The Netherlands and his brother Wiepke (Alida) of Whitby. Also survived by brothers-in-law, Walter Piersma, Durk (Irene) Piersma and Don (Dini) Vandermeer in Canada and sisters-in-law, Griet Wesselius, Hinke Falkena and Doet Elgersma in The Netherlands. He was predeceased by his ten siblings in The Netherlands.

WWII Veteran

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt loss we announce the passing of Fred Brown on Saturday April 25th, 2015 after a lengthy and heroic battle with multiple illnesses.

Fred is survived by his loving wife Mary (nee Adams) of almost 70 years and his four children: Jennifer Finney (Gord), Fred (Linda), Jim (Antonio) and Diane Broome. He will be sadly missed by his 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews and their families. Originally from Weston, Ontario, Fred is predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters and leaves behind sisters Ethel Peters and Margaret Senior.

Many thanks to Dr. Hollander and all the wonderful staff at Bowmanville Hospital.

A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held on Saturday May 2nd, 2015 at the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, BRANCH 178, 109 King Street East, Bowmanville, beginning with a Legion Service at 1:45 pm followed by a Funeral Tea from 2 to 4 pm. Husband to Bernice Rahm (nee Hall) for 62 years.
Devoted Dad to Kenneth, Roy (Barbara), Vicki Adams (Michael) Jocelyn, Bruce, Terry (Margaret) and Betty Ann. Cherished by grandchildren Andrew, Meloney, Frank, Devin, Nathan, Allison, Jason, Mark, Jessie, Nathaniel and Lisa. Fondly remembered by great grandchildren Aurora, Kathy Lynn, Grace, Julia, and predeceased by sweet Maggie.
His sparkling blue eyes, infectious laugh, mischievous story telling will be fondly remembered by all. He loved farming, driving his tractor, being in the great outdoors, hunting and enjoying many lively bingo and card games. Ken had a love of horses and he learned how to drive a team of Clysdale horses at 7 years of age.

Peacefully passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Sunday April 12, 2015 in her 92nd year.

He fought his disease with the heart of a tiger but lost his battle and passed away at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Thursday April 9, 2015.

Sirkka is reunited with her husband of 65 years, the late Eino. Cherished mother of Linda Martin (Doug MacCheyne). Sirkka was the proud and loving grandmother of Jeffrey Martin & Kevin (Zeynep) Martin and was thrilled at becoming a great-grandmother last week with the arrival of Ayla. She was predeceased by her sister Salli.

Heard, John Thomas

In his 93rd year.

Passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2015.

Married for almost 60 years to his beloved wife, Eunice, who passed away in 2010. Dear brother of Robert “Bob”, predeceased by his sister Margaret (Germond) and brothers Milford “Bill” and Don. Father of Cathy, son-in-law Paul and Laurie. John will be lovingly remembered by extended family members, nieces, nephews and friends.

John was born in Oshawa on June 9, 1922. He was a WWII Veteran, deeply impacted by the horrors witnessed during those years while actively serving throughout Europe and Northern Africa. While John worked at Fittings Limited in Oshawa for over 33 years, his passion was music. During the Depression, he played harmonica on the streets for spare change until someone suggested he enter a contest at the Canadian National Exhibition. At the tender age of 10, he blew everyone out of the water, winning a gold medal (over much older and better known players). John continued to play harmonica until the day he died, developing his own unique embellishments in songs ranging from standards to blues, rock, folk, pop, country and classical. He was an equally talented guitar player and when his brother Bill was alive, they often performed at family gatherings and singalongs, or jammed with friends.

John was extremely creative, with the ability to think outside the box and was often sought out for his problem-solving skills. He lovingly built a classic wooden speedboat (with his brother Bill) before designing and building a houseboat on which the family spent many summers exploring the Trent Canal system. After retirement, he and Eunice bought an RV and spent many winters enjoying the warmth of the southern states.

For over a decade, John had prostate cancer and, more recently, Parkinson’s disease. Even with health challenges, he loved to make people smile with his charm and wit. He always enjoyed a good pun. Often he could be seen motoring around town on his bright red scooter, greeting those he met along the way with a friendly smile.

John's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the loving care and
attention given to him by Marie Rogers and Karrie Fawcett at Comfortable Alternative For Seniors in Bowmanville. The gratitude we have for your above-and-beyond support and devotion for Dad, and us, cannot be measured in words. To Heather Scott, Donna and others who cared for Dad in the past, our deep appreciation. Thank you, to Georgie for her regular visits over the years, and to Melissa who took over after Georgie retired. A huge thank you to the wonderful doctors and nurses at Bowmanville Hospital Emergency Room who, while calmly and gently administering to Dad on the afternoon he passed away, said ‘we feel it is a privilege to help people’. The many kindnesses you extended in that short span of time were noticed and greatly appreciated. Acknowledgment goes to Drs. Paul, Thow, Gibson, Tahiliani and Montgomery who treated Dad over the years. Sincere appreciation to Dr. Danny Wu for his acupuncture and Chinese medicine which we feel extended his quality of life for decades. Dad lost a significant amount of hearing as a result of WWII; and, Lou, Jim and all the staff at Chatten’s Better Hearing Service cheerfully helped Dad navigate the latest technology for better hearing. To all family members and friends, we extend enormous gratitude for your prayers and support.

Passed away after a brief illness on Monday March 30, 2015 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville.

Beloved wife of the late Royston Nicholls and mother of Laura, Lesley and Thomas. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces Shirley Pegus and Cheryl Lewis, her nephew Edward Pegus and great-niece Kyla Guss as well as all her many friends.

There will be a Memorial Service for Leonora on Wednesday April 8th, 2015 at COLLEGE PARK SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH, 1164 King Street East, Oshawa at 2:00pm. Rehder, Catherine Mary

(nee Tarlington)

Passed peacefully away on March 30, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's dementia.

Kay grew up in Brockville and was an RN graduate of Brockville Psychiatric Hospital. She loved dancing. Kay looked after people whether it involved her family, nursing, or roles in the Bowmanville branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. She was very involved in her church, Trinity United, and made many lasting friendships there.

Beloved wife of the late Tom Rehder. Predeceased by her mother Kate Tarlington, and siblings Dora Webster, Robert, and Howard Tarlington. Left to mourn her passing are daughter Jennifer Horne and her husband Fred, sisters and brother-in-law Barbara Watson, Robert and Margaret Rehder, Nonnie Rehder, as well as numerous nieces and nephews from the Rehder and Tarlington families. She is also mourned by members of the Horne family, Dave and Johanna Bryant and many friends in Bowmanville.

A special thank-you to Dr. McIntosh, Val, Melissa, Alice and all the staff of Willow Way, Hillsdale Estates Nursing Home who took such good care of Kay over the last 12 years. Special thanks to Johanna Bryant and the late Jack Brough for their many visits to Kay while at Hillsdale.

Peacefully passed away on March 28, 2015 in Clearwater, Florida. Former resident of Bowmanville.

Loving husband of Mary (predeceased) and Dorothy. Predeceased by his brother , Roy in 2004 and parents, Maud & Albert in 1981. Much loved father of Ian (Sue), Neil (Debbie) and Julie Glover (Scott) who will dearly miss him. Beloved Gramps of Claire, Scott, Taryn, Dale, Brennan, Chad, Madison and great-Gramps of Paige, Tyler, Conor and Caleb.

Former employee of Ontario Power Generation and proud member of British 3rd Battalion Parachute Regiment, “A” Company 1944- 1947.

Leslie will be cremated and interred at Bowmanville Cemetery alongside Mary. A Celebration of Life will be held at the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, BR. # 178, Bowmanville on Saturday April 18, 2015 from 2-4 pm. All are welcome. Shane will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sarah and his beloved daughter Hope. He was a wonderful brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, son, son-in-law and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Bowmanville's Robert Carswell Logan -- Bob Logan -- on Monday March 16, 2015, after he lost his brief battle with cancer at the age of 66. Samuel was the spouse of the late Hilda (Martin) together they resided at Wilmot Creek in Newcastle for over 20 years. Samuel was the loving father of Dianne Lee (Brian) and Mary-Jane Soble, both of Cobourg, Ontario. Samuel was the proud grandfather of Amber Soble (Brian Green), Christopher Lee, Michael Lee (Kim), Carrie Baxter (Todd) and the late Benjamin Butler. Samuel was also a great-grandfather to 6, Cassandra Butler, Matayia Renzi, Emery Green, Ryleigh Lucki, Sophia Lee and Samantha Baxter.

He is most widely known as the longtime proprietor of the Coronation Restaurant in downtown Bowmanville, making the best chicken pot pie, baking the best coconut cream pies, roasting turkeys and beef on the premises, preparing homemade gravies, sweet and sour sauce, and welcoming everyone with the best and warmest of Cantonese and Canadian hospitality, to the cafe affectionately known as "Johnny's Place."

Helen was born June 9, 1936, the daughter of the late Charles and Frances Hone of Bowmanville. She is survived by her brother Douglas Hone. She married the late Stanley Anderson on October 8, 1955 after taking up residence in Oshawa, where they started their family. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her children Deb (Carl); Danny; Sue (Jeff); Karen (Mark) and Glenn (Anne). Her loving grandchildren Vicki (Chris), Jessica (Chris), Christopher (Amanda), Michael (Grace), Kerri (Steve), Geoffrey (Meghyn), James ( Leah), Alex (Jenna), Meghan, Sam (Nathan) and Kirsten (Nelson). Helen’s many great-grandchildren Chelsea, Nick, Jayda, Griffin, Connor, Kalei, Mairyn, Holley, Abby, Isaac, Brenden, Kalvin and Jackson. Loved by her canine companions Ben, Sweet Pea, Max and Stella.

On Friday January 9th, 2015, at the age of 41, died of Bladder Cancer at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, surrounded by the love of her family

Camille was born on June 5, 1973 in Oshawa. She is survived by her beloved husband Michael (Mike) Coombes and her sons Stuart and Logan. She is the loved daughter of Duncan & Margaret McPherson and sister of Warren (Ofelia). She will be lovingly remembered by her in-laws Jim & Margaret Coombes, Peter Coombes, Jill Coombes (Maureen), nephews Matthew & Nathaniel and extended family and dear friends.

Camille was raised in Bowmanville. She went to Waverley PS, Bowmanville Sr. PS, then Bowmanville High School. She graduated from Brock University with a B.Sc (Honours) in Earth Sciences. Most recently Camille worked at Hubbell Canada.

Camille was an active member of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario (ACO) ~ Clarington Branch, who works for the advocacy of the preservation and productive reuse of local historically significant buildings and properties. Specifically Camp 30.

Camille was most proud of her boys, her beloved husband and his dojo.

A Celebration of Camille’s Life will be held at ST. PAUL’S UNITED CHURCH, 178 Church St. Bowmanville on Saturday January 17th, 2015 at 3 pm. Visitation will be held from 1 – 3 pm In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to ACO ~ Clarington, The Terry Fox Foundation or an RESP has been set up for Stuart & Logan, these may be done through Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division St. N., with whom arrangements have been entrusted.

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30th, 2014 at the age of 59 years.

He is predeceased by his brother David Arthur Fisher and his sister Luanna Grace Fisher. Survived by his three sisters, Lottie (Harold) Petrie, Georgina (Vincent) Hodgson and Phyllis (Collin) Tanner, his 5 nieces and nephews and his seven great nieces and great nephews. He will be greatly missed by his extended family at Oshawa This Week.

Ralph passed away peacefully on November 30th, 2014 at Spruce Lodge Long Term Care in Stratford, Ontario


Beloved husband of the late Joyce Virtue (McGill). Forever in our hearts and grateful for the life we shared together are his children, Judy (Brian) Hall and Laurie Virtue (Andy DeVries). Much loved Grandpa and fondly remembered by Jenny Hall (Cory Willows), Ashley Hall (Marco Pfister) and Chad Virtue. Predeceased by his brother Roy and sisters Naomi, Ruby and Evelyn (Earl) Masters and brother-in-law Joseph McGill. Remembered by brother-in-law Garth (Marilyn) McGill and sister-in-law Kathy McGill. Will be missed by his nieces and nephews.
Ralph was a 35 year employee of General Motors but his greatest joy was his family farm. Ralph very much enjoyed entertaining and social events with extended family and friends.
